Remodeling vs. Relocating

Kitchen with Island, Sink, Cabinets, and cement floor

Should you stay or should you go?

Over time, families evolve. Whether it’s the birth of a little one, the expansion of possessions, or an increase in income, your needs are always changing. You may need to upgrade the kitchen, the basement, or maybe you just need a bigger house altogether. This leads to this ultimate question: does it make more sense to renovate or relocate? At Creative Spaces, we feel there are a few important questions you need to ask yourself before determining your answer.

Do you like your neighborhood?

Are you attached to the place you currently live? Before you answer this question, consider all of the factors that go along with it. Do you enjoy the schools that your children attend? Do you feel safe? If you answered no to any of these questions then moving may be a better option for you than remodeling. If you answered, yes, however, consider the hassles of relocating. Even if you don’t move too far away, you may still have to find new schools for your children, become accustomed to a new area, and adjust to the change in a new location. Yes, relocating can be seen as a hassle, but when everything is in place and you are all set in your new house, you won’t look back. It’ll feel as if you’ve never left. Plus, you’ll get to meet new people and be a part of a community like the St. Albert Community. It may feel daunting at first, but once you get used to your new surroundings, you won’t regret it.

Does your home have a tangible significance?

Is there an aspect of your house that has a deep significance to you and your family? Perhaps you inherited your home from a parent or relative, or maybe you and your partner built the house yourselves. If you and your family have an attachment to your house, it’s better that you remodel in order to meet your needs. If you don’t then you should still make sure that the move is right for you. Should you make the move, you will need to do some research on moving van hire before planning the actual logistics of the move.

Relocating vs. Remodeling: Which makes more financial sense?

As a rule of thumb, it’s always going to be less expensive to renovate your home than to relocate entirely. There may be a specific aspect of your home that you’re looking to change, which if the case, renovation is a simple fix.

Consider the cost of your current mortgage over its life with its interest rate and the cost of obtaining it. Factor how much your desired renovation will cost and the necessary financing involved, and then compare that number to the cost of purchasing a new home entirely. More than likely, you’re going to save money with renovations to your existing home.

With this being said, if you are adamant about relocating for various other reasons than ones we have mentioned here, whether it is to turtle lake wi or London, be sure to find out all the information you’ll need in order to make this transition as easier as possible for you and everyone involved.

At Creative Spaces, we’ll meet with you, understand what it is that you want, and then offer our bid. You’ll receive the remodeling that you’ve always wanted, and you won’t have to pack up and find a new school system at its expense.
